PE-11 SFX Scouting Force – Reflector

I’ve been wanting this set for a long, LONG time and finally pulled the trigger thanks to the magic of eBay.  Seems he came in this last weekend (along with Steel Core, Boba Fett, my TFCC Issue 46 and my iPhone Tri-pod….it was a good weekend..) I thought I would post as soon as I could.

So here we have Reflector:

Reflector is a weird character.  He’s a third-string Deception that was phased out of the cartoon before the toy was even made available.  He’s also three guys.  Technically, they are each an individual character, from left to right: Spectro, Spyglass and Viewfinder.  But they’re ONLY referred to as Reflector and all speak as one.   So…yeah…..he’s (they’re) an odd one.  Now many of you already know how much I like the IDW series.  To me they are cannon (or a retelling of G1 really,) so that’s why I love these guys.   Here’s a look at the G1 cartoon Reflector:

And the IDW version (note, they’re speaking as one)

And then here’s the G1 toy:

See how much better the Perfect Effect guys are?  They’re so much more character accurate.  And I mean, look at their faces –

“I’ll take your picture…but then I’m going to punch you in the teeth.”

And they’re flexibility is amazing – Perfect Effect sure knows how to make a smaller figure really awesome:

Perfect Effect does a great job of making use of every part in the set too.  Here’s the equipment loadout:

Literally every weapon and armor panel is incorporated into the camera mode.  And with all this gear, the three bots get quite a boost in offensive capabilities:

Everything snaps on very securely, and feels nice and solid.  No flimsy connections or loose joints.  Just awesome all together.  Plus, in case you’re wondering, the numbers on the equipment correlate with the bots:

They are small too – here’s G1 Bumblee, who’s actually bigger.  They’re roughly the size of the Tape characters from PE (who are now all guns…)

As for Alt-mode well:

“Okay Reflector, let’s see what you can see…”

I mean, c’mon.  That’s awesome.  My only issue is that MP Starscream can’t really hold the camera.  The zoom lens is pretty heavy and there really isn’t an grip slots for Starscream’s hands to use.  But its okay, there’s a tri-pod so we’re all set.

I did pick up the reprolabels set for this as well – you can see them here.  That should just be the total icing on the cake.

Finally, I’m going to try and end each post with an artsy-fartsy picture.  I wish I could get more options on this app, I’ll have to look into it…

Still more stuff coming up, I think I’ll get Steel Core done next.

Stay tuned!

  1. Well you’re in luck! TFC is currently wrapping up production on their take – they look to be deluxe sized figures, but are far less character accurate from the looks of it. Still, if size is your thing, it looks like an amazing set. Google it!

  2. I also have a problem with the size, the figures are great but they are so impossibly tiny! I really wish they had been made at least scout sized. 3rd Party gods, please give us a scout sized TV show accurate Reflector! Is that so much to ask?!?!

  3. The funny thing is, I’m not a fan of the TFC set because they’re TOO big.

Well, there was a rumor that Hasbro was thinking of redeco-ing Perceptor into Reflector. That would be another option (albeit an odd one).
